Shurouck and Shamayel, also known as ‘sugar sisters’ had a mutual interest in baking from their earlier days. Their love towards baking started after seeing their mom bake delicious cake for them. They never got tired of their mum’s mud cake and chocolate cake. It was during their college days that they started to sell their cakes. Their first order came through Shamayel’s college seniors, they asked her to bake a cake and when she delivered their order, they really loved it. It was in 2014, they started their facebook page. Like any other small scale business they had their own up’s and down’s. But throughout the journey they didn’t lose their faith in themselves. They started to introduce different varieties of cakes to an audience who never tried anything beyond normal chocolate and vanilla sponge cakes. Sugar Sisters started their official facebook page in 2014, just to know how much ‘likes’ they will get for posting their cakes, with every other photos posting they started to get their customers. It was then when they decided to learn the art of baking professionally. One of them started to take classes in Bangalore and taught each other about it. Throughout their customers grew, they started to get around 7-10 orders per day, which was not an easy target to attain for college going students, but since they enjoyed every bit of their work. They never disappointed their customers. They have showcased their dominance over baking cakes by preparing a 7 layered rainbow cake in calicut. It was after their growth in social media, we can see many home bakers have got influenced by them and started to open their own handles. They have even conducted masterclasses in baking for many aspiring personals.

They have an income of more than Rs.50000 per month, and Shurouck is also a well known make-up artist in calicut. They also had an opportunity to make cake for Actor Dulquer Salmaan for his birthday. Which is one of their most ‘star’ moments till date.

They decided to escalate their home based business, by setting up a shop in one of the busiest streets in Kozhikode. Apart from their signature, the most attractive thing about their cafe is the interior and the way they present it. Everything is magical inside their shop, we literally feel like we are in some disney movie. From cutlery to presentation, they have their own unique ways. Their milkcake’s and pavlova shots are one of the best in town. Since their success, there has been a growing demand for homemade cakes, because of their quality and quantity. Which has eventually influenced other home makers to expand their business, even if we look at the graph of home bakers in Calicut, we can see that professional varieties of cakes from home bakers have only started to expand after Sugar Sisters entry to the business.

Their journey as a baker started when Shamayel was 18 and Shurouck was 16, and till now they have accomplished so many things including inspiration business women awards to opening their dream studio in calicut Which is still a dream for a person of their age. They have broken the barriers of stereotypes by showing their success.
